As public art, the target audience for the Forward Warrior mural project is large & diverse. However, it is worth noting a couple of key points about what makes our project unique:
1. Unlike other mural projects, Forward Warrior artists are all working adjacent to each other, and cooperating as they create. It is our goal to strengthen Fulton County’s diverse arts community, and we believe this makes the artists *themselves* part of the “target audience” for our mission. By putting them together, we forge bonds and friendships across social boundaries that persist and reap benefits for the arts in our region generally.
2. The message of Forward Warrior is meant to inspire positive action and personal strength. We feel the inspirational motifs and relatable characters reach vulnerable populations and those searching for inner motivation. Photos and instagrams of our uplifting imagery travel far & wide on the web, and it is rewarding to see these messages of equity, personal power, and social awareness spread beyond the wall and into online communities.
3. Our curator often says public art is “making memories for children”, and we are proud of our ability to share a heavily concentrated area of meaningful paintings with families in a safe, outdoor, residential setting that is free, pedestrian-friendly, and easily accessible from public transportation.
4. By maintaining a diverse pool of artists, Forward Warrior ensures its messaging is similarly diverse. The Wylie Street wall has hundreds of voices, and reflects manifold faces. More often than not, our artists present their personal voice and imagery in ways that represent their unique cultural identities (as opposed to, say, abstract or decorative arts).
We are not aware of another outdoor mural project in our jurisdiction that represents the work of over 100 artists within a half mile stretch. We hope our audience finds the level of artistic quality rivals our commitment to equity and individual affirmation.
